2010 Blog Reader Options for the Brainy or Obsessed.

Our super excellent friend and fellow MoFie, pickledtreats,  worked all night to bring us awesome ways to read all of these blogs–we ended up smashin’ 700 yesterday!  Besides the normal “click ‘n’ read” we’re offering two ways for you to access this year’s VeganMoFo blogs.

The first is for Google Reader users. If you have Google Reader you can subscribe to all of the blogs in one click! Below is a link to the Google Reader bundle that contains a “subscribe” to all feeds button. This will take you to your Google Reader page (you may have to log in) where you can choose to subscribe to all of these feeds at once, which will be created in a separate folder in your subscriptions.

The second option is a little more technical, but this is for you if you use a feed reader other than Google Reader. Don’t worry – it’s not scary! Most feed readers have the option of importing blog feeds, but they need to be in what’s called an OPML file. We have included a link to an OPML file of the VeganMoFo blogs. Clicking the link will download this file onto your computer – or you can right-click it and select “save link as” and name it what you like. You now have a .xml file of the mofo blogs – probably in your downloads folder. Go to your reader of choice and follow its instructions for importing blogs. It should ask you to select a file…that’s the VeganMoFo file you saved! There are a lot of blogs, so it may take your reader a few minutes to import them all. There are a lot of blogs, so it may take your reader a few minutes to import them all.

Thanks so much for all the hard work guys! You’re the best.

  3. ellie says:

Thanks so much for providing this!

I know this is not your fault since we provided our own feeds, but I just noticed a bunch of these are the comment feed instead of the post feed. (Looks like 14 total.) On the Google Reader bundle page you can expand the list of feeds and do a Ctrl+F on “comment” to see which ones and swap them out. I would think that would automatically update it for anyone who already subscribed, but I’m not sure.

Thanks so much for organizing these readers!!! I have a question for everyone: which do you prefer – googlereader or a feed reader? What are the major differences between the two? I can’t decide which to choose 🙂

  5. Paul says:

The OPML link says permission denied.

The MoFo Team is the hardest working and sexiest (what?) I know!

  7. Mary Worrell says:

If you click on the OPML file link it will download from your browser. I’m not sure what’s going on with the link (it should have taken you to a white web page with a little bit of text at the top), but I clicked it and it downloaded the .xml file immediately.

  8. Pickledtreats is my new best friend.

  9. pharaohscat says:

Hi guys! This is a wonderful idea (especially since I use Google Reader!), but the link is not working for me….Tried to load several times but just get an error message….

  10. What’s the error message?

  11. pharaohscat says:

Well, I just went to try again so I could get the exact quote and the MoFo Magic kicked in! It worked this time!!! Woooo hooo! Now I have to figure out whether I’m brainy or obsessed!?

  12. YAY! For the MoFo magic.
    🙂

  13. Jenn says:

This is so awesome! The MoFo team has been working overtime! For some reason the RSS feed for my site is unavailable on the list. The feed link is: feed://www.cookinvegan.com/Cookin_Vegan/Vegan_MoFo/rss.xml

If theres any way to include it, I’d be very grateful. Thank you 🙂

  14. Paul says:

Something isn’t working right with Chrome and Firefox on Ubuntu then because the OPML link just says “Permission denied” for me but MessyVeggie has downloaded the file no problem with Firefox on Windows.

    • Paul says:

Looks like a bit of extra text on the direct link that might be upsetting some browsers. I got the file from the bundle page. Thanks 🙂

    This is great, thanks pickledtreats!

I am also getting the google reader error. I click subscribe, it say’s it’s subscribing… then “oops, an error has occurred”. I’ve tried 3 times and I will keep trying!!

    • Mary Worrell says:

I would say keep trying! Alternatively you can go the technical route detailed in the post and upload that opml file into your google reader. But if it’s a network connection problem (too slow), you may have the same problem. Fingers crossed for you!

  17. Mary Worrell says:

Also folks, some people choose to include excerpts from their blog posts in a feed rather than the whole post (this can be a setting on some blogs to drive traffic to the actual site). If you’re in Google Reader and you want to view the post in its entirety, just press the letter “V” on your keyboard to get the full “version.” There are also some other keyboard shortcuts I use often – F for full screen viewing, and J and K to move up and down, respectively, through the posts.

  19. OMG. The Google Reader bundle is GENIUS. I’m not posting for VeganMoFo this year because I’m applying to grad school and taking the GRE, but I will be salivating during all my study breaks!

Wowza! Day #4 and already there’s enough to reading to keep me busy for the rest of the month. Thanks for putting this together, guys and gals!

Very good blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?

I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.

Would you recommend starting with a free platform like
Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there
that I’m totally confused .. Any ideas? Appreciate it!

  29. You need to take part in a contest for one of the highest quality
